The Pain Of Discipline Or The Pain Of Regret – Which One Will You Go In For?

Will you suffer the pain of discipline now or the pain of regret later? Would you prefer to grind or hustle today and smile tomorrow? Or run from your fears and enjoy life?

This is one question you must ask yourself if you wish to succeed and live a happy life at your older age. Everything in life demands sacrifices, and that’s discipline.

Jim Rohn once said in a quote below:

We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” -Jim Rohn

The Pain Of Discipline Or The Pain Of Regret?

Don’t let your problems keep you from achieving your dreams. Don’t give up; unleash your potential. Keep finding, and push forward. The goal is you, %100.

Never let the obstacles in life limit your potential. At one point in time, you’ll face pains, failures, disappointments, breakups, defeat, and so much unhappiness.

But it is how you face it that will make you succeed in life. Never run from your pains, or else you’ll regret it in the future: stand firm and fight.

Never compare yourself with others right now. Be yourself and work %100 of yourself.

2 “Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, “It might have been.” -Kurt Vonnegut

3. “The feelings that hurt most, the emotions that sting most, are those that are absurd – The longing for impossible things, precisely because they are impossible; nostalgia for what never was; the desire for what could have been; regret over not being someone else; dissatisfaction with the world’s existence.

All these half-tones of the soul’s consciousness create in us a painful landscape, an eternal sunset of what we are.” -Fernando Pessoa

4 “The only calibration that counts is how much heart people invest, how much they ignore their fears of being hurt or caught out or humiliated.

And the only thing people regret is that they didn’t live boldly enough, that they didn’t invest enough heart, didn’t love enough. Nothing else really counts at all.” -Ted Hughes

6 “Eventually something you love is going to be taken away. And then you will fall to the floor crying. And then, however much later, it is finally happening to you: you’re falling to the floor crying thinking, “I am falling to the floor crying,” but there’s an element of the ridiculous to it — you knew it would happen and, even worse, while you’re on the floor crying you look at the place where the wall meets the floor and you realize you didn’t paint it very well.” ― Richard Siken

7 “We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.” ― Steve Maraboli

8 “Marry, and you will regret it; don’t marry, you will also regret it; marry or don’t marry, you will regret it either way. Laugh at the world’s foolishness, you will regret it; weep over it, you will regret that too; laugh at the world’s foolishness or weep over it, you will regret both.

Believe a woman, you will regret it; believe her not, you will also regret it… Hang yourself, you will regret it; do not hang yourself, and you will regret that too; hang yourself or don’t hang yourself, you’ll regret it either way; whether you hang yourself or do not hang yourself, you will regret both. This gentleman is the essence of all philosophy. ― Søren Kierkegaard

9 “One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.”

― Libba Bray

11 “We don’t have to be defined by the things we did or didn’t do in our past. Some people allow themselves to be controlled by regret. Maybe it’s a regret, maybe it’s not. It’s merely something that happened. Get over it.”

Now It’s Your Turn: The Pain Of Discipline Or The Pain Of Regret

Today’s motivation was from the message my preacher told me at Church on Sunday, July 4, 2021. He told the congregation to “unleash our potential and live a full life.” You know what, we can’t live a life without pains or sorrows; it’s part of us.

Therefore, you have to discipline yourself enough to overcome that pains to prevent future regrets.

Steve Maroboli once said, “Cemeteries are full of unfulfilled dreams… countless echoes of ‘could have’ and ‘should have ‘… countless books unwritten… countless songs unsung…

I want to live my life in such a way that when my body is laid to rest, it will be a well-needed rest from a life well-lived, a song is well sung, a book was well written, opportunities well explored, and a love well expressed.”

So you see, we can’t reverse time, nor can we go back to the past to make corrections.

However, the goal is NOW. If you have anything to do, it is NOW. Most people are on the street today all because they failed to discipline themselves to over their obstacles.

And a lot of adults wish they can become young again. Time is running. It waits for no man, so work hard, hustle, keep grinding and move on.
