What does it mean to live your best life? To live your best life means to live up to your potential and do the things you loved. It also means living a balanced life. Feeling happy and content with your life is something we all hoped for.

To live your best life, try to figure out what’s most important to you, the things you want to achieve in life, things you have to change about your life to make it more productive.

Once you’ve figured things out, set some goals and chase after them.
Truthfully, living your best life is something within our limits. You can learn to embrace happiness and achieve greatness by adopting some healthy habits and lifestyles into your life.

1. Know your inner self

Finding your ideal self will help you live the best life ever. To know your inner self is to know your purpose, values, vision, goals, motivations, and beliefs. Most of the time, we live by what people think we are or can do. Knowing your inner self is not what people or relatives have told you.

However, it is what you’ve discovered for yourself. For instance, when I was a kid, my parents wanted me to be a Doctor -you can laugh! But here I am putting a journal online and following my passion.

Most of the time, we focus on the titles we have more than our self-awareness. Titles like husband/wife, Son/Daughter, Boyfriend/Girlfriend, Employer/Employee, etc. If we lose one of these titles, we get lost with our lives; don’t know what to do next. Sit down, relax and meditate enough to catch up with your ideal inner self -the real you.

2. Create your bucket list

What do I mean by a bucket list? 

According to Meriam Webster, a bucket list is a list of things one has not done before but wants to do before dying.

 It is a collection of goals, dreams and aspirations that you would like to accomplish within your lifetime. The basic meaning of a bucket list is to keep track of your goals and to take steps to achieve these goals to maximize the incredible experiences in your life. Make your list and get out there to make it come true.

3. Fall in love

When two people first get together, they put a lot of effort and energy into making their partner happy and their twosome flourish. Falling in love with the right person will help you live the best life you always wanted. Remember, “it takes two to tango.”

4. Laugh more

Laughing is the best kind of medicine. It makes you feel better and puts you in a state of enlightenment. If you’re reading this right now, I want you to give me your charming smile. I long to see it again. Laughing more will help you live the best life ever and put you in a stress-free mode. I like to laugh more, especially in a difficult situation because:

  • Laughter decreases stress hormones in the body such as cortisol and adrenaline, thus helping to stave off illness.
  • Laughter strengthens the immune system.
  • Laughing raises your mood; joyfulness through laughter is the fastest way to create a positive state of mind.
  • Laughing is good for the heart and improves blood circulation.
  • Laughter can reduce pain and aid in the healing process.
  • Laughter creates and strengthens human connections.
  • It feels good to laugh.

5. Love yourself

Loving yourself means accepting yourself the way you are and coming to terms with things you cannot change. It means having self-respect, a positive self-image, and unconditional self-acceptance. Never compare yourself with others; if you do, it will make you less superior.

Others aren’t better or worse, more or less than you; They’re just different. You have value just as they are, and accepting yourself means there’s no need for comparisons.

Write down some positive affirmations and confess them daily in the morning to make yourself feel better. For instance, saying words like; I can do it! Am I good enough? Yes, I am! All my dreams are coming true! Confess it daily to motivate yourself. 

Most of the time, we tried to give all our love and attention to people and become exhausted at last. Learn to love yourself first so you too can live your best life!

6. Live in the Present

Some people are still caught up in the past and not taking advantage of this present life. Living in the present moment means no longer worrying about what happened in the past and not fearing what will happen in the future.

It means enjoying what’s happening now and living for today. If you want to live the best life, please, let go of the past; failures, rejections, lost of job or loved ones, and that emotional pain in your heart.

You can’t go back to change your mistakes, but you can take charge of this present life to change your future. Live in the present and enjoy life!

7. Make Someone’s Day

That smile on your face when a loved one has just shown up to pay a surprise visit or a stranger assisting you in something you can’t do all alone. If you’re a recipient, you will understand how making someone’s day feels. You will not understand how that compliment you said to your partner has changed his mind about your relationship.

Making someone’s day doesn’t have to cost anything either. All it takes is a little thought, kind words and smiles. It could be complimenting unexpectedly, surprise notes, saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you to someone. 

If you have a little money and want to make someone’s day, there are all sorts of things you can do.

  • Buying someone a coffee
  • Donate to a local charity
  • Buy a hot meal for a homeless person
  • Bring a snack or dessert to share with your friends.

8. Stop thinking about what others think of you.

I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody -Bill Cosby.

If you live your best life to impress people, then I tell you, you will never live the best life ever. We want everyone to like us and might completely stress out when someone doesn’t show that affection. There’s no need to worry about what other people think because no one is perfect, and their opinions should not change how you should feel about yourself.

And besides, there’s no way everyone in the world is going to like you.

 When you stop stressing over others’ thoughts, perspectives, and goals for your life, you’ll realize just how truly happy you can be.

Don’t let that negative comments hate speeches, and rejections from people stop you from achieving your goals. 

9. Appreciate your time with loved ones.

Spending time with your loved ones will make them feel like a part of something special. When you spend time with them, you get to know your loved ones better.

This way, you understand them well. You learn what they love, their pet peeves, and their fears. The more time you spend with your loved ones, the more you will understand them. It also reduces stress as it makes you happy and helps you live your best life.

10. Set goals for yourself

Setting goals, working towards them day by day, and ultimately achieving them is the key to living the best life ever. Goal setting helps trigger new behaviours, help guide your focus and helps you sustain that momentum in life. One of the most important questions in goal setting is this: What do I really what to do with my life?

Asking yourself this question will help you be more realistic and focus on your ideal purpose in life. I remember my teacher in high school used to ask us a question about life whenever he entered our class, “Where will you find yourself ten years from now?”.

Therefore, I always return to this question over and over again every year to evaluate where I am now. Setting goals for your life is very important.

The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life. By knowing what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts. Every goal starts with a vision, ideas and values we hold. 

11. Stop letting money control you.

We all need money, but if we make it obsess over us, it will take all our happiness away. Happiness is a state of mind, not about getting enough money to burn. Money can do all things as we usually say, but not to the extent of stealing our joy.

If you often tell yourself; ‘if I had enough money, I would get this, be that or do that, you’ll never live your best life. Anyone who chases after money will never be satisfied. Please don’t put all your energy into wanting more and chasing after money but relax, work hard on your dreams, and make them come true. 

 12. Meet New People

Meeting new people can open doors. Staying in touch will keep you on their radar, so they’re more likely to think of you when job openings arise or they come across someone who can use your services. Regular networking increases your chances of being in the right place at the right time.

Again, meeting new people will help you explore new things and widen your networks. Please get to know people in your industry and build a friendship; asking more questions and learning from them. 

 13. Find a Mentor

There may be moments in your life where you can not combat a difficult situation all alone until you lean on someone you trust for assistance. That person could be a professor, doctor, pastor, friend, family member, or others, and you realized their help was undeniable.

Mentoring is important, not only because of the knowledge and skills you can learn from mentors, but also because it provides professional socialization and personal support to facilitate success. Finding a mentor who is in your industry or what you want to achieve in life will enhance your life and help you get rid of any mistakes along the way.

14. Spend Time Alone

Spending time alone allows you to take a moment and reflect on your thought processes. Again, it helps you enjoy your own company. It’s a great way to recharge for your next move, and also helps to reduce depression symptoms and makes you more creative.

 Being alone doesn’t necessarily cause loneliness, and many people can feel lonely despite being in the constant presence of other people. I like to spend time alone, especially one weekend to reflect and meditate on my new plans. We spent a lot of time with our friends and loved one’s whiles becoming self-absorbed.

15. Pray in a Sacred Place

Spending time with a supreme being is very important when it comes to how to live your best life. Every religious person understands the importance of praying; Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, and any other religious personalities. Praying makes you feel better about yourself and also allow us to show our gratitude to the deity we’re worshipping.

Hephzibah Christian Centre is a sacred place for waiting, retreat, and a serene environment to be alone with God. Hephzibah is the only place in Ghana I always go to whenever I want to be alone with my God.

16. Stop Overthinking

Overthinking elevates your stress levels, reduces your creativity, clouds your judgment and strips you of your power to make decisions. 

A study from the University of Michigan found that 73% of adults between the ages of 25 and 35 overthink, as do 52% of 45- to 55-year-olds. Overthinking contributes to severe depression and anxiety — especially in women — and interferes with good problem-solving.

Overthinking will take your eyes from seeing the big picture. At times you may even overthink positive things, and it will no longer look positive anymore. Stop putting too much pressure on yourself and learn to be content.

17. Focus on the positives

According to experts, Positive thinking helps with stress management and can even improve your health. By thinking positive, you can’t help but be optimistic, even when everyone around you is miserable. As a result, you are happier, less depressed, and more satisfied.

If you can see the positive side of everything, you’ll be able to live your best life more than others.
