Who Is Professor In Money Heist?

Professor, Sergio Marquina, is a fictional character in the Netflix Spanish series La Casa de Papel, a.k.a Money Heist, portrayed by Álvaro Morte. He is the mastermind of the heist who assembled the group, as well as Berlin’s brother.

The Professor had been planning heists from a young age. At the age of 19, he stopped renewing his identity card not to be registered.

The Professor recruited 8 robbers to carry out a heist at the Royal Mint of Spain, which his father had planned.

Under the false identity of Salvador “Salva” Martín, he was able to get closer to the lead inspector assigned to the Royal Mint robbery, Raquel Murillo, and the pair eventually fell in love. Raquel then joins the gang by the name “Lisbon.”

The Professor led the second heist in the Bank of Spain to pressure the Spanish government for arresting Rio. This was a heist that he and his half-brother Berlin had planned years ago.

Sergio is a male with a mustache and a beard in perfect physical condition. His hair is long and black, and he cuts it slightly shorter in season 3.
He is the leader and mastermind of all the Money Heist characters.

Who Is Berlin In Money Heist?

Berlin, Andrés de Fonollosa is a fictional character in the Netflix series Money Heist, portrayed by Pedro Alonso. A terminally ill jewel thief, he is the Professor’s second-in-command and brother.

He is the second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain heist and planned the Bank of Spain heist years prior, which he shared with The Professor and Palermo.

Not much information is known about Berlin’s early life in the series. However, it assumed that his mother had another relationship with another man, resulting in the Professor’s half-brother’s birth.

Before joining the Robbers of The Royal Mint of Spain, Berlin was a jewel thief, with twenty-seven robberies to his name of jewelry stores, auction houses, and armored vehicles.

Before the Royal Mint of Spain, his most significant theft was 434 diamonds in Champs-Élysées, Paris.

Somewhere in his life, he was recruited by his half-brother to be the leader of the “greatest robbery ever.” He was trained in various things along with his fellow robbers, and he learned all the details of the heist.

When La Casa de Papel, a.k.a Money Heist, begins, Raquel Murillo was a savvy, no-nonsense police inspector.

After the crumbling of her marital relationship with Alberto Vicuña, she filed a restraining order against him. She got full custody of her daughter due to the accusation of his abuse.

Raquel first meets the Professor in a café near the Mint when he lends her his cell phone to call her mother. They become friends and eventually fall in love, unaware that he is the “mastermind” of the heist.

She was responsible for negotiating with the Professor. She was abused by her husband, Alberto Vicuña, which likely affected her self-confidence. The Professor used this knowledge to his advantage during the negotiation.

After finding out the professor is the leader of the Money Heist characters, she does everything possible to trick him and take him to jail.

Still, he eventually convinces her, and she gives in to his plan, letting him escape with the money and finding him a year later in Palawan, an island in the Philippines.

Who Is Tokyo In Money Heist?

 Tokyo is one of the main protagonists of the Netflix Spanish series La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) and the story’s narrator. She is a member of the money heist characters set to rob the Royal Mint of Spain.

Before joining the heist, Tokyo and her boyfriend robbed a Prosegur pickup truck which ended in a shooting where three people were killed, including her boyfriend, and from then, she became a fugitive.

The police put up posters with her face all over Spain. Without knowing that the police have surrounded her mother’s house, she met the Professor by chance, who told her to refrain from visiting her mother.

He offered her to join his heist, along with 7 other robbers. Haunted by the death of her ex-boyfriend, she vows not to mix heists with love. However, she quickly falls for Rio, a young and tech-savvy robber.

Who Is Nairobi In Money Heist?

Nairobi is one of the leading money heist characters. During her teenage years, she had a boyfriend with who she later became pregnant. Her boyfriend left after he found out about the pregnancy.

Jiménez gave birth to a boy, and she named him Axel. However, when Axel was 3, child services took him away from her after finding out she was dealing drugs.

Before the first heist, The Professor and the robbers spent five months in Toledo preparing for the theft at the Royal Mint of Spain.

Everyone agrees to have a name after cities because of the Professor’s rule of no real names. Jiménez chose to be known as Nairobi.

Before the heist, Darko Perić was called Mirko Dragic, and he chooses Helsinki because of the professor’s law of no real name. Helsinki is also one of the money heist characters who robbed the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain.

Helsinki was mainly in charge of watching over the hostages, teasing Arturo, and chatting with Oslo. In the second season, he suffocated Oslo, who was in a vegetative state.

Rio is one of the front money heist characters in terms of hacking and computing. At a young age, he became interested in computers and began programming at the age of 6. 

Rio often locked himself in his room for hours. His parents believed that he was working or playing on his computer, but he began his career as a hacker.

Rio has engaged in multiple cyber-attacks, all done discretely so the police couldn’t track him. He stole banking data and attacked North American servers. 

These hacks were reported by several online newspapers such as La VozLa NaciónEl Diario.com. However, Rio never discovered his identity.

Rio begins a romantic relationship with Tokyo during their time at the Toledo Estate.

Rio and Tokyo’s relationship jeopardized the Royal Mint of Spain heist, as it affected their behavior and caused them to make impulsive decisions.

After the first heist, they eloped together and spent time hiding on an island in the Caribbean.

However, Tokyo eventually felt bored and desired to go to the city. When Tokyo forgets to call Rio, he stresses and repeatedly calls her.

Unknowingly to Rio, his repeated calls allowed Interpol to trace his location, resulting in his arrest.

Denver is also one of the leading Money Heist characters portrayed by actor Jaime Lorente.

Denver was raised by his father, Moscow, who abandoned Denver’s mother at a roundabout due to her drug use. For many years, Moscow led Denver to believe that his mother left him.

In season 1, Denver meets Mónica, the secretary and mistress of Arturo Román. When Berlin discovers that Mónica hid a cell phone in her clothes, he orders Denver to kill her.

However, Denver is unable to kill her. He shoots her in the leg instead and hides her in a vault. They spend significant time together while Mónica’s wound heals.

They soon fall in love and start a relationship, which Nairobi describes as “Stockholm Syndrome.” Mónica becomes loyal to the crew and escapes with Denver after the heist ends.

Mónica Gaztambide, otherwise known as Stockholmworked as the secretary of the Royal Mint of Spain until the robbers took her hostage.

She fell in love with Denver, who looked after her when he hid her in a vault. She later became a robber in seasons 3 and 4 when she decided to escape with the gang.

Mónica is well-educated and learns quickly. She only took 6 weeks to prepare for the entrance exams to get a job at the Royal Mint of Spain. While working as a secretary there, she begins an affair with Arturo Román.

She initially was quite timid and could quickly be taken advantage of, but as she joined the group and became a robber in the Bank of Spain, she got more confident and bad-ass and is not afraid to boss a few hostages around and uses a gun.

Najwa Nimri Urrutikoetxea is a Spanish actress and singer who portrays Alicia Sierra on the series Money Heist. Nimri’s mother is Navarrese, and her father is Jordanian. 

She was born on February 14th, 1972, in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain. When she was a child, she moved to Bilbao and now lives in Madrid. She was married to Daniel Calparsoro from 1995 to 2000 and had a son named Teo in 2004 (father unknown).

In 2019, she joined La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), where she plays Inspector Alicia Sierra.

Arturo Román is one of the controversial money heist characters portrayed by actor Enrique Arce. He was the general director of the Royal Mint of Spain before the heist took place.

Arturo was married but had an affair with his secretary, Mónica Gaztambide, and got pregnant with his son. Arturo constantly got in trouble with the robbers.

Arturo is a coward who tries to escape from severe consequences by letting others do the deeds, putting the other hostages in danger.

He’s also a huge attention seeker, as seen in season 4, where he explicitly states that he wants to be the hero who saves all of them.

Rodrigo De La Serna As Palermo In Money Heist

Palermo is one of the money heist characters, portrayed by actor Rodrigo de la Serna.

Although he was not part of the Royal Mint of Spain heist, he was an associate of Berlin and The Professor before that.

He collaborated with Berlin for coming up with the Bank of Spain heist, and they both presented the plan to The Professor, who was uncertain about it.

Luka Peros As Marseille In Money Heist

Marseille is one of the money heist characters, portrayed by actor Rodrigo de la Serna.

He appears as a recurring character in season 3 and as one of the main characters in season 4. He has never entered the bank but helps the gang and the Professor from the outside.

Paco Tous As Moscow In Money Heist

Moscow was one of the main protagonists in seasons 1 and 2 of Money Heist. He was one of the eight robbers who went in to rob the Royal Mint of Spain and the father of Denver, another leader in the show.

His first job was as a miner in Asturias, but he later became a thief using tools to rob banks.

Roberto García As Oslo

Helsinki is Oslo’s cousin, and together they fought in wars. Helsinki and Oslo are close, having traveled and done work together for a while before the Professor recruits them. Oslo trusts Helsinki enough to request Helsinki to kill him when he is put in a vegetive state.

Oslo and Helsinki helped Berlin punish Rio in season 1 Episode 3 and are also seen aiming guns at Denver and Nairobi during a standoff with Berlin in season 1 Episode 9.

Hovik Keuchkerian As Bogotá

Bogotá is also one of the Money heist characters who appears in seasons 3 and 4. He was part of the crew who carried out the robbery at the Bank of Spain.

Bogotá is the world’s best welder and has a vital role in the heist at the Bank of Spain. He is the prominent member in charge alongside Nairobi to lead the group melting the gold bricks in the national reserve into grains of gold at the Bank of Spain.

Through his talents in welding, the team pulls off the successful extraction of the gold from the flooded vault.

Diana Gómez As Tatiana

Tatiana was the ex-wife of Berlin as introduced in season 3. Not much has been explored about her character except some trivia such as her being a robber and knowing the intricacies of the Bank of Spain heist plan

José Manuel Poga As Gandía

Gandía is also one of the money heist characters, portrayed by actor José Manuel Poga.

Gandía appears as one of the former hostages in the Bank of Spain but he manages to escape after following advice given to him by Palermo

He had been the former head of security at the bank. After he managed to escape from the bank, he joined the police in trying to track down members of the heist group.

Two New Money Heist Characters In Season 5

On August 19, 2021, Netflix tweeted about two new characters in Money Heist Season 5. One is Rene played by Miguel Angel Silvestre. The other is Berlin’s son Rafael, played by Patrick Criado.

Rene plays the love of Tokyo’s life and viewers had first seen a glimpse of him at the beginning of the series. She was heard saying that when the ‘story began’, her name was not Tokyo.

Patrick Criado As Rafael In Money Heist Season 5

Rafael is a 31-year-old computer engineering graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is extremely determined on one thing: that he does not want to be like his father.
